Artist Statement
My fascination with Greek mythology growing up turned into an interest in the art and archaeology of Ancient Greece in college. In class one day while talking about Greek and Roman statues I started to wonder about what stories and art that have been passed down to us and how possibly they have changed over time. Through my works I want viewers to pause and consider what sort of things they are passing on to the next generation and what things they might be choosing to not pass on. My art pieces fit into one of a few sub categories of this idea;
works that illustrate stories my family has passed down, pieces that show how specific myths from various cultures have evolved over the centuries, and lastly, art about myths that I believe are underrepresented in today's society. I grew up hearing and reading many different myths and legends from many different cultures, so subject wise my art takes inspiration from a broad spectrum of them including ones like Greece, and Japan. I mainly focus on coil building and other hand–building ceramic pieces out of high fire stoneware clay but have branched into digital art, and mixed media sculpture.
